Obscura VPN is a single-plan VPN at 8.00 USD per month, billed monthly; there is no yearly plan, no free plan and no free trial. You can pay with Bitcoin over the Lightning Network, Monero or a credit card (via Stripe).
How it works. Obscura's own servers relay a WireGuard tunnel to exit servers run by Mullvad, wrapped in QUIC ("WireGuard-over-QUIC"). Because the traffic looks like regular HTTP/3, the stealth transport is aimed at networks that filter or block VPNs. Obscura states that it never sees your decrypted traffic. Apps are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, and one account has 5 simultaneous connection slots. Exit locations cover North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
Privacy. Sign-up needs only a randomized account number, with no name, email or phone number. The privacy policy states: "We do not persist, log, or otherwise store your IP address when you use our VPN." Payment data is not retained by Obscura, according to the same policy; the retention period for account data is not published. The app source code is on GitHub, and diagnostic debug bundles are never sent automatically. The website is also reachable as a Tor onion service.
Audits. Cure53 audited the macOS app, network extension and protocol (published December 2025). That was a security audit, not an independent verification of the no-logs policy. Obscura does not say that its servers run RAM-only.
Good to know. Payments are non-refundable; there is no money-back guarantee. Support is by email only.
Pros
- Pay with Bitcoin Lightning or Monero, sign up without an email address
- Two-hop design: Obscura relays, Mullvad exits, and Obscura cannot see your decrypted traffic
- QUIC-based stealth transport for restricted networks
- Open-source apps, kill switch and built-in ad/tracker blocking
Cons
- No refunds and no free trial
- Monthly billing only, no discount for longer terms
- No independent no-logs audit, no RAM-only servers stated
- Email-only support

What users report
Ratings on platforms are not representative and sometimes manipulated; they never count as evidence for facts. People mostly write when something goes wrong: hardly anyone posts “KYC was easy and worked right away”, but ten users with verification problems do, often because a step was missed. So we never weigh criticism on its own, only against other offers in the same category. Only the average ratings on App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot count towards our score, damped and compared within the category. Single reports and community posts do not, so the score cannot be swayed by bought reviews.

How the score is made up
5.5 of 10 · average
Weighted sum of the criteria, each 0 to 10 from proven values. A criterion without data is not scored and counts with the category median, not as 0.
Capped at 5.5: trust is low (young brand, little disclosure or incidents).
