Mullvad VPN is a VPN service run on numbered accounts: signing up generates an account number, which according to Mullvad is the only identifier you need – no email address is asked for. There is one flat price of 5.00 EUR per month, and the longest terms cost the same per month (5.00 EUR). One account can be used on up to 5 devices. There is no free plan.
Paying with crypto: Mullvad accepts Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Monero, as well as cash, card, PayPal, bank transfer and several local payment methods. Crypto and cash payments are also possible through Mullvad's onion site in Tor Browser. The 14-day money-back guarantee does not cover crypto, cash, App Store or voucher payments.
Privacy: Mullvad's no-logging policy says: "we never store any activity logs of any kind". It names no logging of traffic, DNS requests, connections, IP addresses or bandwidth. An audit of its VPN servers by Assured AB found no logging of customer data. When Swedish police came with a search warrant, they left without any customer data. Payment records are kept for the periods set by accounting law. All servers run from RAM; some are owned by Mullvad and the rest are dedicated rented servers.
Features: WireGuard only, with own open-source apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Features include a kill switch, split tunnelling, multihop, obfuscation (also for restrictive networks, via bridge servers), an ad blocker and quantum-resistant tunnels, plus protection against DNS and IPv6 leaks through Mullvad's own DNS. P2P is not restricted. The network has 566 servers in the listed countries. Dedicated IPs are not offered.
