Proton VPN (protonvpn.com) is a VPN service from Swiss provider Proton that can be paid for in Bitcoin, next to card, PayPal, cash, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Its open-source apps cover Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, browsers and TV devices, support WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, and allow up to 10 simultaneous devices on paid plans. The network counts 21,722 servers.
According to its privacy policy, Proton VPN keeps no session logs ("we do not log VPN session data"); the no-logs policy has been confirmed by independent external audits and in a real legal case. Features include a kill switch, split tunneling, Secure Core multihop, the obfuscation protocol Stealth, DNS-level ad blocking, Tor over VPN, and protection against DNS and IPv6 leaks using Proton's own DNS servers.
A permanent free plan is available; paid plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee (no refunds for cash payments). Bitcoin payments run through the Bitcoin network only — no Lightning or other chains — and excess Bitcoin amounts are credited to the account as Proton credits.

What users report
All reviewsRatings on platforms are not representative and sometimes manipulated; they never count as evidence for facts. People mostly write when something goes wrong: hardly anyone posts “KYC was easy and worked right away”, but ten users with verification problems do, often because a step was missed. So we never weigh criticism on its own, only against other offers in the same category. Only the average ratings on App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot count towards our score, damped and compared within the category. Single reports and community posts do not, so the score cannot be swayed by bought reviews.
